P-Shot vs Shockwave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction

What is the difference between P-Shot and shockwave therapy?

P-Shot is an injection of platelet-rich plasma from your own blood and is experimental for ED. Shockwave therapy (EdSWT) applies low-intensity shockwaves without injection and is intended mainly for vasculogenic ED, with a weak guideline recommendation for selected men. Neither is a universal best choice. The most appropriate treatment depends on the underlying cause of ED.

Key fact: The 2026 EAU guideline reports a mild average improvement from low-intensity shockwave therapy and gives a weak recommendation for selected men with vasculogenic ED. (European Association of Urology, 2026; page updated )

How a urologist chooses

  • The likely cause of ED, including whether blood flow is the main issue.
  • What you have already tried, and how tablets were used.
  • Your health, medicines and preferences, including comfort with injections.
  • The strength of evidence and the risks of each option.

Can they be combined?

Some clinics combine PRP and shockwave. There is not enough high-quality evidence to say a combination is better, so it is treated as investigational. No treatment can be guaranteed to work for every man, and suitability and expected benefit vary between patients.
